Paritutu Rock

Paritutu Rock

Paritutu Rock offers a rewarding adventure with its 15-minute steep climb. Historically, Māori flattened the summit to create shelters and kumara storage pits. Today, the summit provides stunning panoramic views of the Sugar Loaf Islands, New Plymouth, and Back Beach’s distinctive black sand. On clear, sunny days, you might catch glimpses of Mounts Ruapehu, Tongariro, and Ngauruhoe on the horizon.

You can drive directly to the base of Paritutu Rock for a convenient start, or choose to access it via the scenic Coastal Walkway, which stretches along New Plymouth’s picturesque shoreline. Along the way, don’t miss the striking Te Rewa Rewa Bridge and the array of outdoor art installations that enhance the coastal experience.
