Stirling Point

Stirling Point

You can’t visit Invercargill without making a trip to Bluff to see New Zealand's iconic signpost at Stirling Point. This landmark is famous for marking the southernmost point of State Highway One.

While in Bluff, check out the Chain Link Sculpture, which signifies the end of State Highway One.

A similar sculpture can be found at the entrance of Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island. This represents the anchor chain of the demigod Māui, who, according to tradition, fished up the South Island (Te Wai Pounamu) and anchored it with Stewart Island (Rakiura). The matching chain link sculpture on the mainland at Bluff completes this symbolic connection.
