Explore Okere Falls: A Scenic Gem Near Rotorua

Locally known as "The Kaituna River," Okere Falls is a must-visit destination situated 20 minutes’ drive from Rotorua on SH33. Due to the carpark’s reputation for theft, it’s advisable to park your car near the shop for added security.

What to Expect:

  • Easy Walk: Enjoy a leisurely 1 km walk along a well-maintained track that stretches 1.2 km. A scenic detour leads to Hinemoa's Steps and provides stunning views down to the water.
  • Historic Tutea's: Discover Tutea's, named after a local chief. During wartime, women and children would be lowered by rope to seek refuge here.
  • Historic Turbine: View a historic turbine from the power station that operated from 1901 to 1939, delivered by bullock teams.
  • Viewing Platforms: Take in the spectacular scenery of the falls from dedicated viewing platforms.

After your visit, stop by the Okere Falls Store for a refreshing coffee or craft beer on your return.

Enjoy the natural beauty and rich history of Okere Falls!
