Arrowtown

Arrowtown

Arrowtown is charming and quirky, a delightful gold rush village nestled beside the sparkling Arrow River and below magnificent peaks. Just 20 minutes from Queenstown Airport, it's the perfect place to stay while you're exploring the region. Arrowtown is a thriving community that is packed with character – as well as some of the best dining and shopping in the country. You’ll be enchanted by the heritage main street and the beautiful walking and biking trails. It's a New Zealand treasure!

Arrowtown has over 15 listed walking trails that last about an hour. For cyclists there are also plenty of great trails to enjoy. Just too many for me to detail. Go and see for yourself.

Of particular interest to me was the partially restored Chinese settlement at the bottom of town from the 1880's.   This little settlement stayed occupied until the last man left in 1928.  Chinese miners participated in so many of the gold rushes in the South Island.

Visit the museum and take a slow walk through town and marvel at all the heritage buildings.

And don't forget to stop at one of the myriad of nice restaurants and cafes for a meal and a glass of local wine or craft beer.
