Warbirds and More

Wanaka…How do you explain Wanaka because it's simply amazing.

First of all it's the gateway to the Mount Aspiring National Park, which is full of glaciers, beech forests and magnificent lakes.  Also nearby are the Treble Cone and Cardrona Ski Fields.

Warbirds over Wanaka is New Zealand's  premier air show and that's held over Easter Weekend. From mock battles, to aerobatics to static displays it's tremendous.

Next to the airport is the National Transport and Toy Museum which holds amazing collections of all kinds. Barbie, Meccano, Cars, Bicycles, Planes, Trucks, you name it. There is even a wall about 30 metres long with 1000's of teaspoons on display.

But that's just the beginning.

There is also the famous Lavender Farm to visit.

You can hire  a bike and  ride endless wilderness trails.

Visit the Wanaka Tree in the lake.

Go to Albert Town

I would recommend  booking a motel in Wanaka and using that as a base for regional travel.  There are plenty of great Motels to stay in while you do day trips to Lake Hawea, Diamond Lake Conservation Area, Glendhu Bay and Cromwell.  So much to see and more to miss.
