Devil's Punchbowl Falls - Arthur's Pass
Devils Punchbowl Falls is one of Arthur's Pass National Park’s most iconic waterfalls, cascading 131 meters in a stunning display of natural beauty. The walk to the falls is a must-do for visitors to the park, offering a rewarding experience for hikers of all ages and abilities.
The walk to the waterfall begins at the carpark near the main road, across from the Arthur’s Pass Visitor Centre. It takes about 1 hour round trip and covers a distance of 2 kilometers. The well-marked trail involves crossing a footbridge over Bealey River, followed by a gradual climb up a series of wooden steps. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by lush native beech forest, with glimpses of the surrounding peaks through the trees. The path can be steep in places, but the viewing platform at the base of the falls offers a breathtaking payoff. On a sunny day, the waterfall creates a cool mist and a serene atmosphere, while in winter, it’s often framed by snow-covered peaks, adding to the dramatic scenery.
The track is easily accessible and perfect for families, providing a snapshot of the park’s alpine environment with minimal effort. Don’t forget your camera to capture this spectacular sight!
