Kaikoura

Kaikoura

Every time I visit Kaikoura I find something new to see and do. It's a small town of 2,360  with lot's to do.
At the southern end of town is the Seal colony where you can walk out on the rocks to see them. The Kaikoura earthquake of 2016 raised the sea bed and you can see all the raised white bleached rocks that used to be under the ocean. There is a 11km easy 3 hour walkway to do if you wish. Views are stunning.

Of course everyone knows about the famous Whale Watch Tours.

Kaikoura homes 12 species of Albatross and plenty of tours can be found to see these up close too.

Farmers markets are open on Sunday from 10am to 12pm with a great range of product on sale. It's on the edge of town near the Whale Watch centre and Railway station.

The Kaikoura Museum is called locally “Mini Te Papa” because it is so good. Learn all about the 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake and how it changed life here.

Then there is a visit you can make to the Lavendyl Lavender Farm.  Treat your senses. They have a great shop on site full of fancy oils and fragrances.

And I found the best Fish and Chips at Coopers Catch by the overhead  bridge in town.

For a little town Kaikoura sure has a lot to offer. Plan on stopping overnight. Don't  rush it.

There are a great range of Motels at very reasonable prices too.
