National Aquarium of New Zealand

National Aquarium of New Zealand

Napier is the home of the National Aquarium of New Zealand which is on the shore front near the CBD.

If has a 50m long travelator in a  viewing tunnel. Feels like your under water , just not getting wet.

The Aquariums origins  were pretty basic and humble. Les Mills, a shoe salesman put a fish tank in his shop  in 1954 and filled it with tropical fish his son had purchased in Wellington. The popularity was immense and Napier's 30,000 Club spent 500 pounds ($1000) to establish a public aquarium. which opened in 1957. In 2002 after  an $8m upgrade it was renamed the National Aquarium of New Zealand.

The Aquarium is amazing and nothing I could say would be good enough. See it for yourself.

Apart from exhibits they  have ………..

Ocean Youth Programme

Sustainable Coastline projects

Little Penguin Rehabilitation Centre

Kiwi Breeding Programme.

The facilities are excellent and they have an exhibition hall venue hire for corporate and private functions.  Great place for a birthday party of a wedding.

So get along and see an amazing place.
