The Ohakune Giant Carrot

The Ohakune Giant Carrot

The Ohakune Giant Carrot is one of New Zealand’s most quirky and beloved landmarks, symbolizing the town's long association with carrot farming. Standing over 7.5 meters tall, this bright orange sculpture greets visitors at the entrance to Ohakune, located at the foot of Mount Ruapehu in the Central North Island.

Originally created as a prop for a TV commercial, the Giant Carrot was gifted to the town in 1984 and has since become a popular photo spot. Ohakune, known as the "Carrot Capital of New Zealand," celebrates its agricultural heritage with this iconic structure, and every year, the town hosts the Carrot Carnival to honor the vegetable. The Carrot Adventure Park, surrounding the giant sculpture, features fun, family-friendly attractions, including playgrounds and carrot-themed activities, making it a perfect stop for travelers.
